About the Ambassador Program
AMBayArea coordinates the Bay Area Dream it. Do it. ambassador program that connects manufacturers with students, parents, and educators. This work is carried out in partnership with AMTAC, Inc., The Manufacturing Institute, Bay Area Community Colleges, Earn & Learn East Bay, the region’s Workforce Development Boards, Project Lead the Way, and other intermediaries and schools.
The manufacturing ambassadors are young, well-spoken employees who play a front-facing role in the community. They bring a message of inspiration, passion, and drive to students who may not be aware of manufacturing and who someday may consider a career in the industry.
What do the Ambassadors talk about?
The Ambassadors received guidance on relating to students and preparing to speak in the classroom setting – telling their story, talking about their company and their role within it, and mentioning some pertinent manufacturing info, for California and the country at large. They are also trained in several different classroom activities, for engaging kids in the kind of team-based exercise, which pairs communication and hands-on learning in a friendly competition with classmates.
After the training, the Ambassadors also received development outlines, to help them as they craft their own message, as well as brochures to leave behind with their student audiences.
The Ambassadors also share their stories of how they decided to train for their specific job, the details of the post-secondary education and training, and what their current job entails. They are happy to talk about the great things included in working at their company. They also answer questions from students and teachers
