Jian Hong of Laney College

Saul Guerrero of Chabot College

In the spring, the Association of Manufacturers Bay Area (AMBayArea) launched the AMBayArea Skilled Trades Student Scholarship Fund. Initial funds for the scholarships were raised through the inaugural AMBayArea/BACC Golf Benefit in the fall of 2021.

Two $500 scholarships were awarded to Bay Area community college students. Scholarship recipients were Jian Hong of Laney College who is studying to be a machinist and Saul Guerrero of Chabot College who is studying to be an Electronics Technician.

Applications were accepted in April and March and reviewed by AMBayArea board members. Applicants had to meet the following criteria:

  1. Currently enrolled (Winter or Spring 2022) in one of the 28 Bay Area community colleges.
  2. Studying for a career in one of the manufacturing skilled trades (machining, welding, industrial maintenance, electronics, quality control, etc.).
  3. Able to provide a community college faculty member as a personal reference. The faculty member should be informed of the application and aware that they will be contacted at a later date.

AMBayArea will continue to raise funds and offer future scholarships for Bay Area community college students.

Save the Date: The next AMBayArea/BACC Golf Benefit will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at Lake Chabot Golf Course in Oakland.
